You know the saying, “If these walls could talk…” Well, I’d love to know what the Kappa Delta house walls have to say. Since 1981, the Texas Kappa Deltas have held recruitment, bid days, and many chapter meetings within these walls. I imagine they have heard a lot of laughter and a lot of good memories being made. We have 43 sisters living in our house currently, and it never ceases to be a good time.
Over the past few years, there have been many improvements that allow the house to be more functional for our sisters. In the summer of 2013, the walls separating the living room from the sunroom were torn down and hardwoods were installed throughout. With this renovation, we are able to have a bigger chapter meeting area and more open space to hang out and study with our sisters. The bedrooms were the focus of the summer of 2014 with new beds, mirrors, fixtures, and carpet installed. The furniture in the living room and sunroom was also updated with more modern pieces.
During the summer of 2015, the kitchen, mini-kitchen and dining room were renovated! In the mini-kitchen, new hardwoods, cabinets, and countertops were installed. The dining room walls were painted and a new salad bar was built.
During this winter break, the exterior of the house was painted white with black accents. Everyone was so excited to be welcomed back for a new semester with the gorgeous paint job!! In addition, new carpets were installed on the front and back stairs, and new rugs were placed in the foyer.
While many would think living with forty-two other girls is crazy, this house has been my home for the past two years and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have loved that there is always someone to go do things with whether it is to go shopping for a formal dress or go get a late night snack. I have spent countless hours in the TV room witnessing some of the most hilarious moments. I have gained another mom in our house mom who has become someone that I appreciate and will miss greatly when I graduate. I have gotten the chance to share a room with my little and have her become one of my best friends! I have had so many wonderful moments in this home.
There have been many changes to the house in the past few years, but one thing will always be the same, the amazing and wonderful women I get to call my sisters. As I begin my final semester of college, I am so fortunate to not only work with my sisters, but also the amazing Kappa Delta house staff and House Corporation. I have immensely enjoyed living in the house for two years and am so proud of all these changes taking place. I cannot wait to see further renovations and come back to visit as an alumnae. Cheers to a final semester and getting old!
