Big and Little take the Big Apple!

Two years ago, we didn’t even know each other. A year ago, we became big and little. Now, we can say we’ve explored New York City together! Being in the business school together has always been great for a lot of reasons – taking classes together, studying together, helping each other with presentations – but neither of us ever expected it to take us as far as New York. We both applied to the Company Field Trip program in early December, and were selected to attend the visit to New York happening in early January. This not only gave us the opportunity to visit many corporate offices with other students, but to explore New York City together!

The companies we toured surpassed all expectations we had going on the trip. At Google, we got to see the impressive and modern New York office near Chelsea Market (which led to us trying out an awesome street taco restaurant during our lunch break). Most of the banks we visited were in the financial district, and Bloomberg was right next to Times Square, so by the time we completed all of the scheduled visits we had gotten to see a large majority of the city!

After a busy day of office visits, we went to dinner with another Texas Kappa Delta Dana Hwu and Alumna Suzy Felfeli, who is working at the Royal Bank of Canada in NYC. She gave us great tips about the recruiting process, inside info about what it’s like to live in New York, and even brunch recommendations!! Dana is a senior in McCombs as well, and she is going to be moving to New York following her graduation this May. Suzy just graduated in May of 2015, and was very involved in both KD and McCombs during her four years. It was so great getting to catch up with her on the trip and hear all about her new life in New York!

With Suzy’s recommendations and a decent comprehension of how to maneuver around the city, we set off on our free day to pack in as much sightseeing as we could. We started the day by going to Central Park and had brunch at Sarabeth’s. Lemon ricotta pancakes were involved, so it’s safe so say Sarabeth’s did not disappoint! We then made our way to Fifth Avenue to shop until we went back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Benefit of going in early January – all of the shops still had their Christmas displays up! After dinner, we went to Carlo’s Bakery on Times Square and split the cutest mini tiramisu before making our way to a Broadway show! After the show, we ended the night singing karaoke at a little restaurant near our hotel with other students on the trip. Unfortunately, singing might not be a great career path for either of us… I guess we’ll stick to business!

Although we left Sunday, we managed to squeeze in one more stop to the coffee shop Bibble and Sip before catching a cab to the airport. Lavendar lattes and spiced pear and earl grey scones, paired with good conversation ended our trip on the best note. Our next trip to New York is already in the works, and we can’t wait to see what more we get to do together in the coming years!
