This morning I was writing a reminder post for our chapter and I decided to attach a countdown until recruitment. That’s when it hit me that recruitment is less than a month away!
Recruitment is a crazy experience at Texas. It’s 100 degrees outside, west campus is fairly difficult to navigate, and you are surrounded by a thousand girls that you have never met. Strangely, it’s these things that make recruitment such an incredible experience. You will meet girls from all over the country, each with their own unique story and their own recruitment experience. You will discover connections with these girls that you never could have expected, and you will find some of your lifelong friends. It’s incredible how much you can learn about someone while you chat in line together waiting for the doors of a sorority house to swing open with 200 girls in the door frame, chanting to welcome you inside.
The best piece of advice I was given before going through recruitment is to take a step back from the stress of the week and try to enjoy the experience inside each house. It is very easy to get overwhelmed when you have a full week of parties, and its easy to get intimidated by the process. But when it comes down to it, all recruitment really is, is conversations with girls that are SO excited to meet you. So, remember that when you are nervous or stressed. Look around and enjoy spending time in all of the different, beautiful sorority houses. Have fun talking with the girls you meet during recruitment and enjoy the delicious snacks they give you.
My recruitment team and I have dedicated our whole summer to preparing for recruitment. We CANNOT WAIT for y’all to arrive on campus! I found my home in Kappa Delta and am made better by it every single day, so I wish you all the best and hope that you can find that too.
Love in AOT,
Here are a few pictures from Bid Day 2015! Bid Day 2016 can’t get here fast enough!!
Courtney DeVore is our Vice President of Membership and is a part of our 2014 pledge class. Often seen practicing recruitment chants throughout the Kappa Delta house, Courtney is so excited to welcome all the girls going through recruitment in August! She is an Economics-Psychology double major from San Antonio and plans to attend law school after undergrad in hopes to become a prosecutor one day! In her free time, Courtney loves to adventure to different food trucks in Austin and to go on runs through west campus with her roommates.
